About Me

INSTRUMENTS
I am a Woodwind Specialist. I play 13 different woodwind instruments, namely: Soprano, Alto, Tenor, and Baritone Saxes; Piccolo, C Flute, Alto, and Bass Flutes; Bb Clarinet and Bass Clarinet; Oboe and English Horn; and Bassoon.

EDUCATION
I studied Saxophone with William 'Bill' Green and William 'Buddy' Collette; Clarinet with William Bill Green and Harry Bulow; Flute with Susan Stockhammer, Bill Green and Buddy Collette; Oboe and English Horn with Gordon Shoneberg and Bill Green; and Bassoon with Bill Green. Bill Green's was such a tremendous influence on my musicianship and the reason I do what I do. Bill was an 'incredible musician' who was also a specialist of the woodwinds and he, along with Buddy Collette, was the model for myself and others.

EXPERIENCE

Since 1977 I have worked professionally as a musician in the Los Angeles area. I have played in many of the Big Bands working out of Local #47 (the Musician's Union), as well as many smaller Jazz groups. As a sideman I have worked with, in various capacities, Billy Preston, Johnny 'Guitar' Watson, O. C. Smith, Lorez Alexandria, Nancy Wilson, Rich Little, Siegfried and Roy, Richard Pryor, Redd Foxx, Chuck Rainey, Johnny Brown (Goodtimes), Ronnie Laws, Joe Sample, Richard Tee, Steve Gadd, Tom Scott, Solomon Burke, Mavis Staples, The Rolling Stones, and others. I have had some Television exposure; the Merv Griffin show with Billy Preston, Dinah Shore with Billy Preston; Don Kirschner's "Rock Concert" with Richard Tee, Tom Scott, and Steve Gadd, and David 'Fathead' Newman (of the Ray Charles Orchestra).
I have album credits: I recorded with Billy Preston on "A Whole New Thing" and numerous 'underground' recordings that can be 'googled' under my name. In 1977 I started working with Billy Preston. During that time I toured with him on the East Coast States, Canada, and South America, 1979 with Johnny 'Guitar' Watson and Leon Haywood, in 1980 with Johnny Brown (lead-sheet work, and transcriptions), Chuck Rainey (lead-sheet), I became known for doing music copying (from scores) and lead sheets, as well musical arranger and contractor for recordings having put together small projects for singers and instrumentalists.

CURRENT PROJECTS
I am currently working on an album project I hope to release in 2012 on which I will feature some of my own compositions as well as a 'cover' tune or two.

FORMAL EDUCATION
I attended college at San Diego State University and graduated from Cal State University Dominguez Hills with a BA in Music. I also attended the University of LaVerne and earned a Master's Degree in School Counseling (a sidestep on my way back to music).
